This week I’m asking you to consider something serious rather than worrying that you have been singled out for outrageous comment – I apologise to any that feel they should have been mentioned by name, but that was Trickey. By my calculations, there are at least 300 members who are affected by the destruction of rollups caused by the booking system. The effect on the quality of their enjoyment on their golf is clearly evident. Rollups allow members (and especially new ones) to meet a larger group of people over a period of time and develop friendships, allowing them to create a group of their own to play in routinely. These rollups occurred on every day of the week, as far as I know. The Crispies are the only one left functioning. There are advantages to the booking system, both for individual members who feel the need of a definite time to play and for visitors. Other clubs have deployed systems where there are small blocks of time which can be booked whilst leaving most of the day free for those who want to just turn up to play, either by themselves or in a rollup. I would suggest that this is considered as the recently cut short trial showed that some freedom allowed people (Crispies) to organise a rollup with great enjoyment ensuing. I would ask you to email the two gentlemen below asking them to consider changing the current arrangements so that there are small spaces available for booking and larger ones for casual play. I would also ask you to pass this on to your friends, asking them to do the same. It is only if a mass of people make their views known, that there is any chance of change.
